How do expansion gaps work in DIY flooring installations?

Answer
Expansion gaps are small spaces left around room perimeters and obstacles to allow flooring materials to expand and contract with temperature and humidity changes. For LVP and laminate flooring, gaps around seven to ten millimeters prevent buckling or warping. These gaps are hidden beneath baseboards or transition strips for a seamless appearance. Maintaining proper expansion gaps during installation is critical for long-lasting, stable floors that won't push against walls or each other as conditions fluctuate.
