Expansion gaps are critical when installing luxury vinyl plank flooring, including when installed over hardwood floors. LVP expands and contracts with changes in temperature and humidity. Allowing a proper gap, typically around quarter inch, around the floor perimeter prevents buckling or warping over time. Skipping expansion gaps risks costly damage and shortens the floor’s lifespan. A quality underpad also improves performance and comfort for floating LVP floors.
